Jules Verne

Jules Gabriel Verne was a French writer famous for many different kinds of writing and is known by many as the father of science fiction. Born in 1828, he is known for the Voyages Extraordinaires. a series of bestselling adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1872). Surprisingly, Jules Verne did not consider himself a science fiction writer,  insisting that he did not make scientific predictions, rather he researched the science of his time extensively before creating stories based on it. Still, his influence on the genre is unmistakable. Several science fiction writers in the future as well as scientists themselves took inspiration from his works. Jules Verne is also credited with inspiring the steampunk genre which uses many elements from the 20th century. H.G. Wells

Herbert George Wells was born In 1866. He was an English author who wrote across a variety of fields including sociology, politics, social commentary, history, war, and most notably, science fiction. He is also known as the father of science fiction along with Jules Verne and publisher Hugo Gernsback, for whom the Hugo awards are named. Ursula K. Le Guin

Ursula Kroeber Le Guin was probably the most important female science fiction author who has ever lived. She has written over 20 novels, several short stories, poems, letters, children’s books, and was an expert literary critic. Le Guin’s works are quite different in many ways from the male-dominated science fiction genre. Her use of dark-skinned characters, as well as influences from feminism, Taoism, cultural anthropology, and analytical psychology, make her work truly unique. His other famous works include Rendezvous with Rama, Childhood’s End, and The Fountains of Paradise.
